XXVI Symposium DIAGNOSTICS OF ENERGY DEVICES AND INDUSTRIAL INSTALLATIONS 9-11.10. 2024

For the foreseeable future, conventional power plants will be an important part of the Polish and European electricity system. At least until large-scale energy storage facilities are built, they will be needed to stabilize generation from weather-dependent sources. Among conventional units, coal-fired units will also have an important role to play in stabilizing the power system, something that was not sufficiently considered at the stage of their design and construction. Maintaining technical condition at a level that guarantees safe operation and availability is becoming a steadily growing challenge, including for diagnostics whose criteria for assessing technical condition and predicting durability are still based on operating time rather than its mode and conditions. Operation at the technical minimum of coal blocks, also reduced, and increasingly frequent and prolonged shutdowns can be a source of loss of life and damage not only to critical components and not only of a stress nature. Diagnostics that take into account these and other features of flexible work have already been developed, they just need to be implemented and applied consistently.
At this year’s Symposium, we intend to present both diagnostics tailored to the needs of power plants over the next several years, as well as discuss how to ensure technical competence at an appropriate technical level during this period. It is very often forgotten that they are an important, perhaps even the most important part of energy security.
